Ilham Aliyev meets with ICESCO Director General

On October 27, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with Salim bin Muhammad al-Maliki, Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).

Postxronika.az reports that during the meeting, the ICESCO Director General congratulated the head of state on the successful holding of the VII International Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Azerbaijan. He noted that President Ilham Aliyev’s address at the Forum attracted great interest and highlighted the importance of Azerbaijan’s experience regarding the cessation of conflicts.

Salim bin Muhammad al-Maliki expressed his gratitude for the support provided for the organization’s activities and for voluntary financial contributions. He highly praised Azerbaijan’s support for projects aimed at developing education in Muslim countries, and also emphasized the importance of cooperation with Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

President Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan is making efforts to strengthen Islamic solidarity and expressed satisfaction with the development of cooperation among countries. The head of state pointed out that next year Azerbaijan will host the Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and will assume the chairmanship of the organization.

Ilham Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijan will continue to support the activities of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and ICESCO.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on issues on the agenda of cooperation between Azerbaijan and ICESCO.
