Ahead of Trump-Xi summit: US and China discuss AI safety
RH
Senior representatives of the United States and China have discussed creating a new notification mechanism to prevent artificial intelligence incidents that could affect national security. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, in remarks following his meeting with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in New York, said the shift from opacity to transparency between the world's two leading AI powers is of exceptional importance.
"Postxronika.az" reports, citing the BBC, that these talks, held ahead of the Washington summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, also considered plans to create a special council that would determine reductions in trade tariffs. China's "Xinhua" news agency confirmed the sides held a sincere, comprehensive and constructive exchange of views on trade and technology issues.
Despite warnings from researchers and industry representatives about the risks of artificial intelligence, Washington has no intention of ceding its lead over Beijing in this field. Taking place against the backdrop of a tariff truce set to expire on November 10, these contacts are aimed at managing both the technological rivalry and the strategic economic interests between the two superpowers.
