Abbas announces Palestine's first parliamentary election in 20 years
NQ
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has announced that parliamentary elections will be held on November 28.
Postxronika.az reports, citing Reuters, that Abbas said this in a video address to the UN General Assembly.
The election is expected to be the first parliamentary vote in 20 years, though there are serious doubts within the country about whether it will actually take place.
Speaking from Ramallah, Abbas said the Palestinian Authority has completed its national reform program.
Palestinians last voted in parliamentary and presidential elections in 2005-2006.
Although Abbas announced this year that a presidential election would be held in 2027, a specific date has not yet been set.
