The strongest wrestlers determined in Masalli

The competition was held at the Masalli Olympic Sports Complex in memory of Honored Coach Nadir Ağayev and on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of sports figure Yaqub Məmmədov. In the open tournament of the Lənkəran-Astara region, winners were determined in 10 weight categories for Greco-Roman wrestling and 5 weight categories for freestyle wrestling. At the traditional championship organized for the U-17 age group, around 300 wrestlers from 26 different teams tested their strength. Officials who addressed the opening ceremony emphasized that such large-scale events give a major boost to the development of sports.

Postxronika.az reports, citing the Wrestling Federation, that in Greco-Roman wrestling, Məəhəmməd Musalı, Polad Gülverdiyev, Əli Cavadlı, Musa Məmmədov and other athletes took the top spot on the podium in their respective weight categories. In the freestyle wrestling competitions, meanwhile, Əli Baloğlanov, Ruslan Mirzəyev, Ruhid İspərov, Siyasət Dadaşov and Tural Eynullayev won the championship title. The speakers noted that the trainees of well-known specialists represent our country worthyly at international competitions. The matches held amid intense sporting rivalry showed that interest in sports in the region is at a high level.

At the conclusion of the tournament, medals, diplomas and commemorative gifts were presented to young wrestlers who distinguished themselves in various categories. The event is important for young athletes to gain experience and for the formation of squads of future national teams. The organizers said that such regional championships will continue to be held in the future as well. The sports community is eagerly awaiting the next successes of the winning young wrestlers on the republic and world stages.
