WTO to set up panel on Russia-EU carbon mechanism dispute
NQ
The World Trade Organization's Dispute Settlement Body has granted Russia's request regarding the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.
Postxronika.az reports, citing TASS, that this was announced by Russia's permanent representative to the WTO, Nikolai Platonov.
According to him, Moscow's repeat request to establish a panel to examine the dispute has been accepted.
Russia submitted its first request in July of this year, but that request was blocked.
The Russian side believes that CBAM restricts market access by imposing additional charges on certain goods imported into the EU.
Moscow has repeatedly raised the issue in recent years across various WTO bodies, arguing that the mechanism does not comply with the organization's core rules.
